Tracy Smith - Getting To Know You

Industry Insight - 01 Aug 2025

A vital part of the RPC team, administration assistant Tracy Smith is the organisational powerhouse who keeps our day-to-day operations running like clockwork. From managing schedules and supporting the wider team to ensuring nothing slips through the cracks, Tracy brings a calm, can-do attitude to everything she does. But there's more to her than just efficiency - outside of work, she has a sharp sense of humour, a passion for classic TV with her family, and enjoys socialising with friends.

Where are you based?

I'm based in our Guiseley office, supporting the team and keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.

Tell us a bit about yourself

I’m originally from Otley and now live locally in Guiseley with my husband, Martin. We have two daughters, Gabrielle and Francesca, who are both currently at university. Outside of work, I’m kept busy by our golden retriever, Alfie, and my horse, Basil.

How has your career path brought you to RPC?

Over the past 35 years, I’ve held a variety of administration roles, mainly within warehousing, distribution, and exports. When I was looking for a new opportunity, I came across RPCuk - a completely different industry to what I was used to. The change of direction really piqued my interest, and I was excited to take on a fresh challenge.

What attracted you to RPC?

From the moment I was introduced to RPC, I was given such a warm and friendly welcome - it was hard to resist! The opportunity to work part-time, close to home, and in a beautiful countryside setting made it an easy decision. What more could I ask for?

What are you working on right now?

At the moment, we're working through some exciting operational changes within the administration office, aimed at improving how we support the wider team. It's a great opportunity to streamline processes, take on new responsibilities, and explore ways we can work even more efficiently. There are some promising developments on the horizon, and I’m really looking forward to what’s next.

What do you like best about your job?

What I enjoy most about my job is the variety - no two days are ever the same, which keeps things interesting. I’m lucky to work with such a supportive and friendly team; there’s always someone willing to lend a hand. RPC has a genuinely welcoming atmosphere, and I honestly enjoy walking through the door each morning.

What do you do in your spare time?

With our daughters away at university, I really treasure the time we get to spend together when they’re home - whether it’s playing board games or just relaxing in front of the TV. I also love taking long walks with Alfie, our golden retriever. My horse, Basil, takes up a big part of my spare time too; I’m out with him every morning and evening, rain or shine, all year round. But I wouldn’t have it any other way - my love for horses makes it totally worthwhile.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I've always had a passion for horses, and I aimed to become a jockey - though that career path never quite materialised.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

Don’t just learn from your own mistakes, learn from other peoples.

What’s on your desk?

Lots of paper and a dancing hamster called Cleo!

How do you like your tea?

I went off tea, after drinking it for donkeys’ years.

Dog or cat?

I love both cats and dogs, but since my husband isn’t keen on cats, dogs it is for us!

If your house was on fire, what 3 things would you save?

My kids, my dog and the hubby (probably in that order).

What would your superpower be?

If I could have any superpower, I’d choose the ability to fly - how incredible would that be!
