We all know that adopting new systems and ways of working can be a painful process for organisations who are established in their methods. But identifying a need, targeting some key and compelling future benefits, and making a plan to do it right are fundamental in ensuring support from the ground up when you implement new tools.
At National Nuclear Laboratory, Microsoft Project was established as their planning tool of choice, but – when it became evident that it was no longer fit for purpose – the business approached RPC to help them to implement and then migrate across to Oracle Primavera P6 instead. The transition to P6 represents one of the organisation's largest ever IT investments, but also a major cultural and practical shift for the project teams.
It will come as no surprise in a project of this size that the process included some unprecedented elements in terms of the solution and the level of data migration. We’re delighted that NNL Project Manager Jennifer McCarthy is joining with RPC Business Development Director Chris Woodbridge to present at this year’s Project Controls Expo UK, talking through their cradle to grave story of the migration and adoption process, including some of the challenges they faced and the benefits they are now seeing.
Jennifer has been a project manager with NNL for over 6 years and led the implementation for P6 EPPM in NNL. She has a passion for using tools to improve processes and data quality to help project managers understand their projects. Perhaps more importantly, she had experienced a poorly executed change management process in a previous job was keen to be involved in ensuring that this one would be a success.
