Latest News - 07 Aug 2023

We’re well-known at RPC for our industry essentials Oracle Primavera P6 training, but did you know that we offer a wide range of other courses, too, to complement and expand on these core project controls skills?

If you work in the project controls arena, you’ll understand the importance of planning and scheduling to underpin successful project management – and Oracle Primavera P6 offers the very best in class when it comes to that. Alongside P6 in the Primavera toolset is Oracle Primavera Cloud Service, a cloud-based product that incorporates elements of risk and cost management into its collaborative portfolio management solution. Whichever tool you use, we offer a range of classroom-based or online training options in everything from mastering the fundamentals to exploring dashboards and reporting or earned value management in greater depth.

But understanding, managing and mitigating risk and schedule delay is fundamental to successful project controls and developing your skills in these areas might just give you the professional edge. It will definitely build on your existing project management techniques and stretch your knowledge and ability into new areas.

We offer a range of courses that equip delegates with a deeper understanding of some of the lesser-known capabilities in P6, an introduction to the techniques of Schedule Forensic Delay Analysis and a competence in the use of the Primavera Risk Analysis tool. Which one could be your first step up the ladder towards higher project controls?

Managing Risk in Primavera Risk Analysis

This 3-day course provides a firm foundation in the basic concepts of risk management through risk-modelling techniques with a lab-style workshop on the third day, allowing delegates to apply their learning in a hands-on, practical environment. We also offer the same content as a 2-day workshop.

Whichever delivery option you choose, you will learn how to use a risk register to assess risks qualitatively and quantitatively, how to run a risk analysis and use the risk register to propose and evaluate mitigations and how to track your planned mitigations with the rest of the project. By the end of the course you will be confident in applying a risk assessment to a project schedule, resources and costs.

With your new skills and knowledge, you will be able to interpret, communicate and justify a risk analysis to the project team to management and to wider stakeholders, and you will be better able to set targets and contingency that are realistic and confidently assessed. In this way, you will have improved your overall project management skills and be better equipped to set expectations with corporate and customer stakeholders.

Understanding Schedule Forensic Delay Analysis

Time is a precious commodity in project scheduling and management, but delays and unexpected disruptions to a schedule are inevitable in large and complex projects. Forensic schedule delay analysis is a technique that enables you to understand the causes and extent of a delay and helps you to resolve or mitigate the resulting issues.

In conjunction with our partners at PMIS we offer two courses to introduce you to this fascinating and powerful project controls skill. The Introduction to Schedule Forensic Delay Analysis is a practical 3-day workshop that explores in depth the principles behind the approach, the techniques that can be used to implement the analysis and how these can be used with a variety of types of contract. No specific software product is used or referenced – this is a product-agnostic introduction and foundation to the process.

As the course title states, Using Primavera P6 for Schedule Forensic Delay Analysis provides in-depth training on how to conduct a schedule forensic delay analysis within Oracle Primavera P6. A variety of scenarios will be presented and techniques discussed and debated, then over the course of 2 days you will perform analyses in P6 and learn how to report and assess the results of your work.

You’ll understand more about the Critical Path Method of scheduling that underpins Primavera P6 and learn how to apply a range of delay methods via advanced scheduling scenarios and techniques.
