We’re getting ready for a bit of a walk. Team RPC will be taking on the Lake District Mighty Hike in June to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
A brave and intrepid group of RPC employees have formed a team to take part in the Macmillan Mighty Hike in the Lake District this summer. It’s a rare and fortunate person who does not have a loved-one who has been affected by cancer and many of us at RPC have seen or experienced the great work that Macmillan does to support those with cancer and those around them. That’s why so many of the team have been so quick to sign up to support the cause.
James Bentley first suggested the hike to colleagues sitting around him in the office and the idea snowballed (we’re really hoping there won’t be snow) until now more than half of all the RPC employees are on the team. There are 17 RPC walkers registered so far, but several more yet to be convinced to take the plunge. James first saw the Yorkshire Dales Mighty Hike advertised on a flyer and was tempted but says, ‘Once I found out there was also a Mighty Hike around Ullswater, I knew it was the one. It’s a place that’s been close to my heart from the first time I climbed Helvellyn and is a truly awe-inspiring place to behold. I’ve been overwhelmed by how many others have come forward to carry the torch and it greatly multiplies the good we can do.’
As the name suggests, the hike is a whopping 26 miles around Ullswater, starting at Dalemain House and circling the lake in an anti-clockwise direction to finish at Lowther Castle, climbing a cumulative total of 3796ft along the way. As Projects Director, John Lister, notes, ‘At least the biggest hill is out of the way early …’.
We’ll be digging deep to get round the course and we’d be really grateful to anyone willing to dig deep along with us and help us to reach our fundraising target via our JustGiving fundraising page.
